Excerpt From the Chapter: A Charmed Life… Before the Nightmare Began
When I was a young mom, I was introduced to Creative Memories where I learned to make albums to preserve photos and write stories to protect for all time.
Over the years, as my children were growing up, I faithfully photographed, preserved, and documented their individual lives and our family life with personal, family, and vacation albums.
I ended up doing Creative Memories as a business for over 15 years. Because of this, I had the added benefit of using the newest and greatest products, constant inspiration and ideas, and the accountability to faithfully create over 50 albums for our family.
I didn’t realize how much a gift this would be to our family at the time. Not having the best memory myself, I knew it was important to do these albums. However, I didn’t know how our life would take such a sad turn and be so dark for so long that I would forget the wonderful memories we had of our kids growing up in their younger years.
Even my girls struggle to remember these happy times because they are clouded with all the difficult memories of their teenage years. I eventually stopped making albums because the memories were too painful. The last family album I did was 2007; I originally started doing them in 1991 after our first child was born.
Things started getting really bad by 2008, and our son died in 2010. Life was great until he hit the teen years and his troubles with mental health issues turned our lives around and set the tone for the years to come.
So I have over 50 albums spanning over 16 years that I would call our happy years… We had a charmed life.
So many people tell me that they used to look at our family as the “perfect family.” It certainly seemed that way. I couldn’t have asked for a better life back then. Oh, how I wish I could go back.
At least I have my albums; and on quiet mornings, I pull them out with a cup of coffee and relive the happy memories.
