If you are trying to maintain or improve your health and well-being, an important part of your meal planning should involve planning and preparing healthy snacks for on the go.
When you are rushing out of the house and you don’t have time to eat breakfast, or you are out and about all day, being able to grab a few healthy snacks to go can prevent you from having to succumb to fast food or gas station food when you are desperate.
Many nutritionists say we need to eat 6 small meals spread throughout the day to fuel our body and maintain a healthy metabolism. This means breakfast, lunch, dinner and three snacks between these meals.
I totally screwed up my metabolism from years of skipping breakfast, only drinking coffee until lunchtime. I couldn’t figure out for the life of me, why I couldn’t lose weight. I eat healthily, I don’t snack, and I don’t eat sweets. It turns out my metabolism is messed up because for years my body has been in starvation mode holding onto every calorie possible.
I have a friend who lost 50 pounds last year and she said the hardest part was forcing herself to eat more. She worked with a nutritionist who told her she needed to eat 6 times per day and to eat 100 grams of protein. Of course, she eliminated sugar and crap from her diet and exercised but it wasn’t until she started eating 6 times per day and increasing her protein that she really started to drop the weight. She not only dropped the weight but she built muscle from working out, something which wouldn’t have happened without giving her body the fuel it needed.
Well, in order to do all this it takes some planning and preparation. I don’t know about you but I am always looking for new fresh ideas, especially for healthy snacks that I can grab and go.
One of the things I love about being a blogger is the connections I have with other bloggers. I get constant ideas, inspiration and encouragement from them. You would think being a blogger and working from home is a lonely existence… it’s not. My life is full of amazing blogging buddies who I interact with online mostly but sometimes at conferences and retreats as well.
Well, I recently reached out to some of the natural health and wellness bloggers I am connected with and asked them for some of their favorite healthy snacks on the go to share in a round-up post for my blog. I am so excited about all of the fresh ideas they shared with me. And I am pleased that I can share them with you.
