Recently, I was introduced to the Marco Polo Video Messaging App by a friend. It couldn’t have happened at a more perfect time because my husband and I were getting ready to leave for New Zealand to welcome our second grandson into the world. This trip was going to be our longest time away…six weeks! I felt bad leaving my mom for so long so I set her up on the Marco Polo App and showed her how to use it to stay in touch before we left.
Oh my! What fun we all had with sending “Polos” back and forth while we were gone. Pretty soon, more and more of our family members from all across the country joined after my mom spread the word about this App.
Both my mom and my mother-in-law thanked me constantly for the “Polos” and they both have expressed that they feel reconnected and closer to everyone now.
What a blessing! It is a major dilemma having both of our daughters settling into lives on the other side of the world in New Zealand and all our other family members spread across the states including North Carolina, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, California and Washington.
Plus, having spent most of our lives living in Southern California and then spending the past 14 years in North Carolina, we have friends in two different time zones, 3 hours apart. This 3 hour time difference has been a huge hurdle in finding times to stay connected. And the time difference between here and New Zealand is ever harder to work around. So being able to record a message when the time is good for you and your recipients can view it and respond in a time that is good for them solves the problem and keeps a conversation going back and forth.
You may be thinking, “What makes this any different than all the other ways we connect with friends and family?” Well, I like what Vlada Bortnik, the CEO and co-founder of the Marco Polo App has to say about that. She says, “A huge part of our day-to-day interaction takes place in texts, but tone, emotion, and content -which help provide our “emotional nutrition” – are absent. We might feel like we’re talking, but we’re really just typing.”
I think that is the key.
Top Reasons Why I Love This App So Much
- You can easily record yourself “live and unedited” to share with a specific person or a small select group of trusted friends and family so you can just be yourself.
- You each have an opportunity to share whatever you wish without interruption.
- You can think about your responses before you reply if someone asks you a question.
- You can go back and listen again if you want or need to.
- You can keep all your “Polos” to view later.
- It’s a great way to cultivate a relationship with grandchildren who live far away.
- Kids love watching polos, especially of themselves! It’s great entertainment when you are desperate to occupy a young one.
- You can watch and/or just listen while you are multi-tasking and doing other things if you need to.
- You can send “Polo” messages when you feel inspired and have something to say. If you aren’t in the mood to talk, no problem…send one later.
- It provides an opportunity for face to face interaction in a comfortable way that encourages you to be yourself, cultivating
connection with those you love.authentic
