Sadly, we currently live in one of the unhealthiest generations in the history of the world, just look at these facts:
- 2/3 of our population is overweight or obese
- 1/3 of our population has Diabetes
- we lose 14 million per year to Heart Disease
- we lose 8 million per year to Cancer
- 60 million people in the US suffer from mental health issues
- 1/3 of our seniors suffer from Dementia and Alzheimers which is expected to double in the next generation
- we spend trillions per year treating and studying these diseases
The good news is that we have the power to do something about it. Studies show we can not only prevent these diseases but we can also reverse disease and restore our health with healing foods.
The foundation of our health is food.
Unfortunately our mainstream food supply has been corrupted with:
- toxins
- chemicals
- pesticides
- hormones
- antibiotics
- sugar
- processed food
- fast food
- GMO’s
If you want to change your health and prevent the predictable outcomes of our “toxic food culture” you need to cut out all these things and start eating healing foods.
What are Healing Foods?
Basically, my definition of healing foods are “whole foods, created by God himself that are unadulterated.”
We are created by God with amazing bodies that are designed to thrive. He equipped us with an immune system to protect us from germs, viruses and bacteria. He also provides us everything we need in nature to nourish, sustain, and heal us. What an amazing God we have!
Hippocrates is known as the father of ancient medicine and he stated, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Back then, the only food available was whole, natural, God made food.
You may not have even realized the impact our processed food culture has had our our overall health and wellbeing.
If you are struggling with a poor quality of life due to physical and mental health issues, there is hope. You can change the course of your life and your health by learning more about healing foods and incorporating them into your daily diet.
How to Learn More About Healing Foods
Every year for the last 8 years, a Food Revolution Summit takes place online, where leading scientists, doctors, and food experts share information about the state of our health and food supply as well as practical ways we can reverse and prevent disease and ensure a better quality of life for ourselves and our families. Learn more about this FREE Online Summit and grab a copy of their FREE GMO Report.
An interesting fact about this summit is that it was started by John and Ocean Robbins, the son and grandson of the founder of Baskin Robbins. John Robbins declined the opportunity to carry on the family business, much to his father’s dismay. Growing up in this family that made their livelihood based on sugar and seeing the health consequences as a result, John Robbins dedicated his life to research and studying healthy living by eating healing foods. He and his son have written several books over the years including Diet for a New America: How Your Food Choices Affect Your Health, Happiness and the Future of Life on Earth, The Food Revolution: How Your Diet Can Help Save Your Life and Our World and Voices of the Food Revolution: You Can Heal Your Body and Your World with Food!

A Costly Lesson Learned About the Importance of Healing Foods
When I raised my three young children, I didn’t know about all these things. I did try to provide healthy meals to my growing family, but two of my children wouldn’t eat them. My oldest child and my youngest child refused to eat anything healthy. In fact, I used to joke that the only vegetable they would eat was ketchup.
I was encouraged by others, including their doctors to not worry about it and not to battle with my children over these issues. They said that their bodies would crave what they needed and they would be just fine.
On the contrary, their bodies craved sugar and carbs and ultimately they weren’t fine. By the time they were in their teen and pre-teen years, they both suffered from severe mental health issues.
Hindsight, they say is always 20/20 and in this case, I can clearly see now that their dietary deficiencies eventually caught up with them years later. Since I eventually lost my son to suicide, I can even go as far as seeing that these poor choices led to his eventual death. I know that is shocking to think about.
My kids kept growing before my eyes and everything appeared to be fine. The doctors always measured their health by their growth charts. My son grew to be 6 feet 7 inches tall before he died at the age of 19 1/2 years old. On the outside, he appeared to be healthy but on the inside, his brain was crying out for help. I eventually learned that most mental health issues are a result of nutritional deficiencies. If you want to learn more about this you can read Nutrient Power: Heal Your Biochemistry and Heal Your Brain by William Walsh.
You may think that was coincidental, but even though I can’t say I have evidence from a huge scientific study, I do have the evidence of my own unfortunate study of two kids with the same issues. One I lost and one has been restored to good health after supplementing all her nutritional deficiencies.
The interesting thing is that now she eats healthy. She no longer craves sugar and carbs but now craves healthy whole foods.
Another point I’d like to make is that she was once diagnosed with a mental health condition that she was told she would always need to be on medication for her whole life. Those medications would mean that she wouldn’t be able to have children.
After years of being on them and experiencing the side-effects and health consequences of prolonged use, and still suffering from severe anxiety and depression, we sought another way to help her. Thankfully we were able to find help from a holistic psychiatrist who walked us through a journey of weaning off these psychiatric drugs, identifying and supplementing her nutritional deficiencies and restoring my daughter to full health.
Wishing I Could Have a “Do-Over” Now That I Know the Importance of Healing Foods
I really do wish I could do life over and raise my family again. I would definitely have done things so much differently and made a priority for our family to eat healthy food. You know how they say we need to pick our battles with our kids? Well, this is a battle I should have picked. It really is ultimately a matter of life and death. It definitely determines the quality of one’s life.
I can’t change the past, but I can change the present and the future. I am now in the stage of life where I have grandkids coming into the world. I am hopeful that my daughters have learned these lessons and will raise their children differently. My husband and I want to live long, healthy, active lives so we can enjoy our grandchildren and watch them grow up.

Hi, so.glad I found you. This post speaks to my heart (no pun intended). We are in the same niche. You made some great points.
Thanks for your comments and for visiting my blog. Glad you enjoyed my post.
Laura thank you for all the book recommendations. Can’t wait to read some of the books:) Interesting story about the Robbins family.
Thanks Miranda. I know, me too. So many books, so little time. I have such a long list of books I want to read about all these things. Glad you like the post and the story about the Robbins family. One of my first jobs was at Baskin Robbins when I was a teenager and I lived on Ice Cream. Those were the days I could eat anything and not put on a pound.
This is such a powerful post about things we just take for granted, i.e. thinking our food is safe to eat. I’m learning so much from your posts and trying to make the changes you suggest. I try to eat organic as much as possible and it’s a matter of just making good choices. I’d rather spend my food budget on good whole healthy foods and not go out to eat as much as I’ve done in the past.
Thank you. I agree. It is just a matter of changing how we choose to spend our money. I like the saying that we can vote with our dollars. That is a power we have to change the way things are going.
Very informative post. My husband and I have tried to eliminate high fructose corn syrup from our diet, and both of us noticed a weight loss and feeling healthier from just doing that. Eating healthy is so important!
Thanks Christine. I am glad you enjoyed this post. You and your husband have made a great choice by eliminating high fructose corn syrup. It is in everything so that one change is huge. So glad to hear your awesome results. Just by making one of these healthy changes at a time can make such a big impact on our health. Congratulations on your success with that.
My wife was diagnosed of Parkinson’s Disease at age 49. She had severe calf pain, muscle pain, tremors, slurred speech, frequent falls, loss of balance, difficulty in getting up from sitting position. She was put on Senemet for 6 months and then Siferol was introduced and replaced the Senemet. During this time span she was also diagnosed with dementia. She started having hallucinations, lost touch with reality. This year, our family doctor started her on Natural Herbal Gardens Parkinson’s Disease Herbal mixture, With the help of Natural Herbal Garden natural herbs we have been able to reverse her symptoms using herbs, which i feel has made the most difference. 1 month into the herbal treatment she improved dramatically. At the end of the full treatment course, the disease is totally under control. No case of dementia, hallucination, weakness, muscle pain or tremors. She turned 56 today. i am glad to get my wife back
Visit Natural Herbal Gardens website http://www.naturalherbalgardens.com She is strong again and able to go about daily activities.
Wow! What an amazing testimony! I am so glad to hear your wife is doing better. Thank you very much for sharing.
Hi Laura!
This is a great post. And one that touches me greatly as I deal with a child with a mental issue which as you say I feel has something to do with diet and I truly feel real nourishment can help her. Which has also led me to start a health and wellness blog too. This post is so informative and will definitely come back to it. Thank you so much!
Thanks Jane, I am glad you found this post encouraging. Good luck with your blog. The world needs to hear more about how proper nutrition is the key to good physical and mental health.
